Chief elections official issues ‘stark personal warning’ to Lukashenka’s representative

The Belteleradio company Chairman Henadz Davydzka has violated the electoral law, but has not been held responsible for it.

The Club of Editors with the head of the Beltelecompany was recorded on 11 September. The program issue was dedicated to the election campaign, the candidates and their programs. However, according to the Electoral Code, Henadz Davydzka had no right to participate in the program, because on September 10 he became an agent of the presidential candidate Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

In the comment to Euroradio, the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission, Lidziya Yarmoshyna, said she had received a complaint about Davydzka violating the legislation and she responded to it.

“I made Henadz Branislavavich a stark warning. Consider that a private warning from the Chairperson of the Central Committee,” said Yarmoshyna.

At the same time the Electoral Code has no such penalty as “a personal warning of the Chairperson of the Central Committee.” The document says that if the candidate’s agent makes a violation, the warning is issued to the candidate himself. And if there are two such warnings, the candidate may be forced to leave the election. Lidziya Yarmoshyna agrees with this remark made by the Euroradio, but nothing more.

“There is nothing like this in the Code. This is a preventative measure. Do you need me to have him shot for it?” asked the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission.

Henadz Davydzka has already said that no violation had occurred. Allegedly, when the program was being recorded, he did not have a mandate of the presidential candidate’s agent.
