Almost a fifth of Belarusian voters has taken part in early voting since October 6, the Central Election Commission said on the website.
Belarusian voters living abroad are actively participating – 22.38% of them have already cast their votes. In Belarus, the most active voters live in Vitsebsk region (19.99%), residents of Minsk are less engaged (17.03%).
Traditionally, Belarusian students are forced to attend polling stations: an idle day is usually promised to those who vote before the official date of the election.
In addition, the initiative ‘Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections’ states that the authorities are fudging voter turnout.
