Alyaksandr Dubko

Mr Dubko is the former Head of the Hrodna Oblast Executive Committee.

He was born on January 14, 1938 in the village Ilava Shumilina rayon, Vitsebsk region, died February 4, 2001.

Agriculture scientist by training, he dedicated his life to improving the agriculture of Hrodna district, where he graduated. He became known as the leader of the millionaire collective farm Pragres (Progress) in the village Vertsyalishki (1972). Mr Dubko was Deputy of the BSSR Supreme Council of two convocations.

In 1990-91 he headed the Hrodna Oblast Council of Deputies. In the presidential election of 1994 he headed the Union of Agricultural Workers. Instead of the official campaign slogan of “Country needs a host” he used the line “If you vote for Dubko, you will have bread and milk,” which was composed by his countrymen in the Vitsebsk region .
