The members of the Belarusian Central Election Commission (CEC) have unanimously decided to register Syarhei Haidukevich, Tatsiana Karatkevich, Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Mikalai Ulakhovich as presidential candidates.
Viktar Tsyareshchanka and Zhanna Ramanouskaya were also seeking registration, but, according to the CEC, less than 7,000 signatures were collected for Tsyareshchanka while hardly a thousand persons supported Mrs ramanouskaya. Each candidate is to file at least 100,000 signatures to the CEC, the law says.
Tatsiana Karatkevich‘s initiative group submitted over 107,000 voter signatures to territorial election commissions. Of them nearly 105,000 were recognized as valid.
The CEC also recognised 1,753,278 signatures in support of incumbent presidentAlyaksandr Lukashenka; 139,877 for Syarhei Haydukevich, the leader of the Belarusian Liberal and Democratic Party, 149,819 for Mikalai Ulakhovich, the Supreme Ataman and the Head of the public association Belarusian Cossacks.
